Date: Monday, May 21, 2012 Recent NewsWildlife Photographer of the YearBy Siobhan The winning photographs from the Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2011 event are currently on display at the Natural History Museum in London. You will be able to visit the exhibition until 11 March. The photography competition is one of the world's most prestigious with over 30,000 photographs entered each year from both professionals and amateurs. Budding photographers aged 17 and under have their own youth category. Each October, the judging panel announces the winners of each category and the overall winning photo. All of these winners are honoured at a special ceremony that is held in London. Soon after the photographs are made into the annual exhibition that takes place at the Natural History Museum. It is a unique chance to see some of the best wildlife photographs from around the world. The exhibition is open to all ages. It is a great way for kids to learn about the environment and the animals that live on Earth. It is also great if you're a photographer or just enjoy admiring amazing images. Tickets to see the exhibition cost £9, which for a special event is good value. All kids under four get free entry. The exhibition is open everyday until 5.30pm. All of the museum's permanent exhibits are always free to explore, so in addition to seeing the photography exhibition, you can also check out what else the museum has to show. Spending the day at the museum is a fairly inexpensive activity to include on your London itinerary. Slightly outside the real centre of London, the museum is still quite centrally located in Kensington. Kensington itself offers some great London hotels in different budget ranges, especially luxury accommodation. If your London hotel is located in a different part of London, you will still find the museum easy to reach by taking the Piccadilly, Circle, or District tube line to South Kensington Station.
